Finding Inspiration
In Sampling: Getting Started with a New Writing Form, Becky Levine describes a method she uses for researching a new form of writing. This was the process she developed for herself when she was a new technical writer and had to write about a product she knew little about.
One of the things I particularly like about this post is that it describes finding inspiration in a form of nonliterary writing. I love when people are able to make those sorts of connections.

Gail, thanks for the link. I used to think some kinds of writing "didn't count." Now I know, it's words, words, words, and there's always a skill to develop. :)
I used to work for a state program that did personnel management and management development programing. Besides being an office drone, I did promotional and report writing for them. I have to say that some of the work I did there has at least influenced my thinking about writing.
I wish I'd picked up more about management there.
